Dr. Nedd is a Board-Certified Neurologist, with subspecialty training in Neurological Rehabilitation and Neuro-trauma at Design Neuroscience Center (DNC) in Doral, Florida.

About specialty: Neurology is a specialty that provides care for patients with neurological disorders, including movement, and neuromuscular disorders, neuro infectious diseases, epilepsy, neurorehabilitation, neuro trauma, neuro oncology, neuro critical care, neuro vascular, neuro immunology, headache, pediatric neurology, and sleep disorders. Dr Nedd’s subspecialty focus is Concussion and Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), neurotrauma and neurorehabilitation. Through this specialty, he also developed a continuity of care model, where neurological care starts in the acute phase immediately following trauma, and continues through the intermediate rehabilitation unit, acute rehabilitation unit, and the outpatient setting. This allows continuous evaluation of the degree and level of disorganization of the brain after injury, which guides a step wise approach to management and treatment of brain injury that has changed and saved so many lives for the past 30 years.

Clinic: DNC is a comprehensive brain injury center involved in the evaluation and treatment of individuals with traumatic brain injury and other neurological disorders. This center enhances outcomes by delivering neurological and rehabilitative care and treatment utilizing an integrative interdisciplinary team approach. Our center provides a wide range of physical and cognitive rehabilitation services utilizing skilled, on site Physicians, Physical Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Speech and Language Therapist, and Neuropsychologists. Our qualified rehabilitation experts work together to develop a plan of care that is tailored to the patient needs and recovery goals. The team develops programs with specific timelines, treatment schedules, treatment modalities and recommendations with protocols to track patient progress. DNC’s mission is to implement a customized program with flexibility to meet the needs of each patient depending upon their level of disability and their ability to reintegrate into their community.

Dr. Kester J Nedd brings 30 years of experience with over 250,000 patient encounters of persons with concussions/Traumatic brain injury (TBI). He is involved in the evaluation and treatment of the most complicated cases of patients with this condition; offering unique solutions that make positive changes in the lives of people who otherwise would have little or no hope. He developed and postulated the Brain Hierarchical Evaluation and Treatment (BHET) method; a unique multidimensional approach that considers the hierarchical organization of the brain and how this order is impacted by injury and the recovery process.

He currently serves as the Managing Partner of Design Neuroscience Center, a comprehensive brain injury center involved in the evaluation and treatment of individuals with traumatic brain injury and other neurological disorders. For 25 years, Dr. Nedd served as the Medical Director of Neurological Rehabilitation and Medical Neuro-trauma at Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center. He was also an Associate Professor of Neurology and served as Medical Director of the Sports Concussion Program at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine until May of 2020.

As an expert in sports concussion, he is involved in treating current and retired athletes and is on the forefront of issues related to concussion from sports, military conflicts, road traffic accidents and with other methods of injuries. He is an educator/teacher, researcher, policy maker, and entrepreneur and brings to his patients a level of compassion and sensitivity that has made him one of the most sought after in his field. Dr. Nedd provides a clear and decided perspective and philosophy on the subject that others have found valuable.

What questions should a patient ask their physician?

– How did my brain injury affect my brain? And what should I expect?

– What is the long term impact of a concussion or mild TBI?- What can I do to help my brain heal?

– Will I ever be who I was before my injury?

– Why am I experiencing a high level of depression, anxiety, and anger after my injury?

– Why am I experiencing physical symptoms of dizziness, headaches, imbalance, insomnia and pain after my injury and what can I do about it?

– How will my injury affect my life and the lives of the ones around me?- Should my child play contact sports?

– When can I return to work, drive or play after a concussion?- Will I develop CTE after my injury/s?

– What are the problems that we all think the least about and bother people the most with brain injury? (loss of smell, fatigue, sleep disturbance, staying focus and  keeping up with a conversation)
